Have You Caught the Madness that is March?

I don't guess I did too bad on the first day of the NCAA tourney. After Thursday's rounds, I only missed three games. I missed on Florida State over FGCU (was going for the upset there), and Florida over East Tennessee. I did pick Middle Tennessee over Minnesota and Northwestern over Candy. I didn't realize I wasn't giving the state of Florida any love at all.

Anyway, I hope you do well on your bracket this weekend.

Luke Ford Commits to Arkansas

Luke Ford with Arkansas Head Coach Bret Bielema

I guess the big news this week is that Lions tight end Luke Ford surprised many and made his verbal commitment to the University of Arkansas on Tuesday morning via his twitter account.

I had the chance to talk with Luke and his parents Tim and Lisa in the studio. We talked about his recruiting trip that lead to his decision. You can watch it here.

Congratulations to Luke and his family!

Carterville Lions Softball

The Ladies kick off the 2017 season tomorrow morning at 10 am when they host the #2 team in the state in St. Joseph-Ogden Spartans.

The Lady Lions have new fencing and banners in the center field area at the softball field. Big thanks to Capie, Jeralds, Diel, Ashton and Clark for installing. It looks fantastic. (thanks for the tweet Carterville Crazies).

Carterville Lions Baseball

Head Coach Bobby Jackson and his Lions baseball team got off to a rousing start this week with a 24-5 win over the Eldorado Eagles.

Their next game comes up Monday afternoon at home with they host the Herrin Tigers at the baseball field at CHS. Game time is set for 4:30 pm.

Girls Varsity Soccer

The season kicks off tomorrow for the girls varsity soccer when they hit the road and take on the Harrisburg Bulldogs. That game will start at 11:00 am. Good Luck Ladies!

SIRR All-Conference Honors

The SIRR began releasing the names of their all-conference selections.

In boys basketball, Taylor Heil and Brendan Beasley were selected in the Mississippi Division.

In wrestling, the Lions had four wrestlers selected. Congratulations are in order for Matt, Kaleb, Julian and Lucas.

I don't think I've missed anything. If there is something that is related to Carterville sports that I should know about, please let me know.

Also, if you are at any of the spring sporting events and you happen to take pictures that you are willing to share, please send them to me. You can email me at dmac@davemckenzie.net

Hope your bracket holds up all weekend and warmer weather is on the way as well.

As always #LetsGoLions
