And the Regular Season Comes to a Close

It is hard to believe that the 2016/17 basketball regular season comes to a close tonight and that the girls basketball season is done. Where has this year gone?

Tonight the Lions travel the 8.4 miles to meet cross-county rival Herrin Tigers in the last regular season game for the year for both teams. This will be the Lions third Senior Night game they have participated in this year.

For your convenience, I have included a map to help find the way to HHS. I was very careful not to include any toll-roads or ferry routes along the way. Your welcome! But I digress. We really need a big crowd to come over and help out the boys tonight.

The Lions bring their 15-13 record into the game and they are coming off of one of their best games of the season, despite the fact that it was a loss, 43-40 at Pinckneyville one week ago.

Herrin is coming off of a overtime loss to Massac Co earlier this week, so both teams need this win tonight to gain a little momentum going in to next weeks regional here at Carterville.

I was at practice yesterday and Coach Hawk said they had a very good week of practice and are ready for these upcoming games.

You can catch all the action as always on NewsRadio WJPF and www.wjpf.com starting at 7:30 with our pre-game show. Scott and I will have the play-by-play starting at approximately 7:45 pm.

As always you can watch and listen to the game on our Youtube page. You can watch below or head to www.cartervillelionathletics.org

IHSA Regionals Start Monday Night at CHS

Monday night the Lions open play in the IHSA regional being played at Carterville. They will open up against the Massac County Patriots. If you remember it was a last second shot at the buzzer by Kris Miller that beat the Lions 32-31 back on February 4th.

The winner of that game will face the #1 seed Carbondale Terriers on Tuesday Night at 7:00 pm in the first semifinal game. Game three will feature (4) Benton Rangers against (#5) Marion Wildcats. That is the second semifinal game. The winner advances to the finals on Friday night.

Scott and I will of course have the Lions game(s) on NewsRadio WJPF, but we will also be carrying the non-CHS games on our YouTube Channel. Head to www.cartervillelionathletics.com for the link information.

Lady Lions Wrap Up Their Season

Coach Matt Crain and his Lady Lions ran in to a very good ball team on Tuesday night when they took on the Highland Lady Bulldogs in the Waterloo Sectional.

It was all Lady Bulldogs as they route our ladies 69-43.

The Lady Lions finished the season 27-4 for the year. They had three tournament championships, finished the SIRR Conference season undefeated and won their very first Class 3A Regional Championship.

We saw Megan Barrett score over 1,000 points in her CHS career and we saw two incredibly talented seniors finish up their high school career in Megan and Baleigh Koester.

That is a fantastic season by any measure. Congratulations Coach Crain and Coach Cowan for another memorable season.

Now Spring Sports Are Underway

We are just a couple of weeks from the start of track and field, baseball and softball.

The Lady Lions Softball team and Coach Will Capie are pre-season Number 1 in class 3A. It's going to be another exciting season of Lions softball.

I've talked with Head Coach Bobby Jackson about the Lions baseball team. They have just started practice for the season and are looking for a good year.

Thank You!

I just wanted to take a minute to say thank you for all the comments regarding our broadcast of Lions sports. It has been a great year and I truly enjoy talking Lions sports.

I want to say thank you to Todd Rogers and Brett Diel for all of their help all year long. It is a pleasure to be able to work with them. Also a big thank you to all of the coaches for putting up with me always asking for an interview here, a comment there. Coach D and his staff during football season, Coach Hawk and Coach Crain during basketball. Thank you!

I also want to say thank you to Dave Baburnich, the I.T. manager for the district. He was a huge help to me to get our home basketball live stream broadcast lined out and looking fantastic without all the skipping video feed. Thank you.

Also, a huge thank you to my partner Scott Hudson. It's been a pleasure to have you sitting next to me during broadcast this season.

As always....#LETSGOLIONS!
