It's February 10th and the 2017 basketball seasons are not too far being being done for the year. Can you believe that?

Girls Varsity Basketball

The Lady Lions are going to start the 2017 postseason this next week at the Centralia Regional. Coach Matt Crain and his Lions are the #1 seed and have a first round bye. They will play the winner of the Mt. Vernon/Salem game that is played Monday night at 6:00 PM. The Lions game will be Tuesday at 6:00 pm.
The other side of the bracket has Carbondale with a first round bye and they will play the winner of the Olney/Centralia game.
Good luck to our Lady Lions!

Boys Varsity Basketball
It's going to be a busy five days for the varsity boys team this week as they will be playing three games in five days and two of the three are SIRR conference games.
Things get started tonight when the Nashville Hornets come to town, seeking payback after the Lions beat the Hornets back on December 21st 43-37. That win was the first win for the Lions at Assembly Hall in Nashville and helped propel Carterville into a tie for first in the Mississippi Division of the River to River Conference. Nashville is playing much better of late and the Lions seem to be playing better as well.
As always, you can watch the game LIVE on our YouTube page. As always feel free to share the link with your friends and family and also make sure that you subscribe to me Carterville Lions Sports page on YouTube and here on the website.
Saturday night the Lions will host the Sparta Bulldogs at 7:45 pm. Then the Lions will play their third game in five days coming up Tuesday night when they will host the Harrisburg Bulldogs in non-conference game. Tuesday night will be Senior Night, so lets' make sure we have a HUGE crowd to share the love with our senior players and cheerleaders and band members.
You can watch the Lions and the Bulldogs LIVE below:
This next Friday, the IHSA will release the pairings for the class 3A post-season coming up this Friday (Feb 17) at 4:00 PM. Carterville High School will be hosting one of the Regional s which is fantastic for Carterville. We have one of "the best" facilities with which to host an event like that. I will keep everyone up to date on the pairings when they are released next week.
The final two regular season games of the year will be February 17th at Pinckneyville and then the following Friday, February 24 the Lions will travel to Herrin to take on the Tigers in the season finale.

Carterville Wrestling
The Carterville Lions have three wrestlers that advanced from regionals last week and will be competing this weekend in the Sectionals.
Congratulations to Lucas Sarver, Julian Harshbarger and Joe Ellis who each finished 2nd in regionals and to Matt Jones who finished 3rd. All four will be wrestling tonight and tomorrow at the Vandalia Sectionals.
Good Luck Boys!!!!
Carterville Lion Cheerleaders

Last weekend the Lion Cheerleaders traveled to Bloomington to compete in the IHSA State Cheerleading Finals.
Their preliminary routine was at 11:20 am and there were twenty five schools competing in their division.
You can watch their routine below:
Unfortunately, this year the Lions did not advance on the the Finals on Saturday. Their division this year was incredibly stacked with all twenty-five teams extremely talented.
I want to personally thank Linda Drust, Bonnie Howerton, Amy Drust and all of the girls for their hard work and dedication, all while still cheering on our other Lion teams.
So you can see there is ALOT going on right now. And don't forget the spring sports seasons will be kicking off the in the very near future.
Make sure that you visit the Lions athletic webpage for score updates all week long, along with links to all the games that we produce on YouTube. Visit www.cartervillelionathletics.org
As always....GO LIONS!
