Coming in to this weeks game at Du Quoin, you would be hard pressed to find two teems that are more alike. And that's why this week's game will be the game of the night in Southern Illinois.
Before looking at where each team is going into Friday's game, you need to take a look at how they finished up 2015. Both teams finish conference play with a 4-1 record and a co-conference championship. The Indians get the automatic bid into the playoffs. Both teams finish the season with a opening round loss.
Coming in to Friday's game at Du Quoin, both teams carry a 1--2 record after a couple of tough losses. For the Lions, Following a 33-6 win over Benton, the Lions suffer a heartbreaking loss to their new regular season cross conference rival Herrin 7-6. Then last week, after seeing the Red Devils take a 21-0 half-time lead into the locker room, the lions fight back in the third quarter to tie the game 21-21, but wind up losing 27-21.
The Indians had a similar start to the season. A big 34-17 win over Massac County to start the season. Then a hard fought loss to the Harrisburg Bulldogs in week two 16-6. Last week against the Herrin Tigers, the Indians, trying to convert a 2 point conversion to win the game, are stopped at the goal line and lose the game 27-26.
But you can take these first three games for both the Lions and Indians and throw them out the window, as River-to-River Mississippi Division conference play kicks off.
The Lions have the fire power to win this game and become the conference favorite. They have the fire-power. But in order to beat Du Quoin, the Lions MUST eliminate the penalties. Hopefully we will see a team that settles in to the rhythm and is able to move the ball up and down the field like they are capable of doing.

Weather
Weather appears to be a part of the game tonight at Du Quoin with a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms at kick-off.
Two the of the Lions first 3 games have a delay, including last weeks over 3 hour delay, which saw the game end at 12:45 am. Les Winkler of The Southern wrote a good article regarding weather delays and how the IHSA should address the weather delays.
Halftime Celebration

Tonight at half-time, Du Quoin High School will retire the jersey of SIU Football head coach, and former Indian quarterback Nick Hill.
Broadcast Info
Scott and I will have the broadcast on NewsRadio WJPF and our YouTube Live Stream up and running for tonight's game. You can watch and listen to our radio coverage. Don't forget that you can hear the game on AM1340 or listen online at at www.wjpf.com as well.
All of the this season games are available to watch on my Carterville sports YouTube page. If you want to watch last weeks game versus the Lions, you will notice that the radio broadcast is missing from the video. That is my fault. while doing some editing of the video, I accidentally erased the entire audio feed of the game, and unfortunate I couldn't recover it. That won't happen again.
Should be a great game tonight and hopefully Mother Nature will cooperate so we can get the game it.
Have a great night. Let's Go Lions!
