See Ya Chicago, It's On To The Next Round!

What a series!

Last night the St. Louis Blues finally knock off the Chicago Blackhawks in the first round of the NHL playoffs 3-2 in seven games.

The Blues had been eliminated in the first round the last three years and in order to move on they were going to have to find a way to knock out the defending champions...and they did it.

Thanks in large part the play of goalie Brian Elliott, the Blues played to another level against the Hawks. They were the defending champs and were not going to go away easily. If the Blues wanted to advance on to the second round, they were going to have to TAKE the series from Chicago.

Although the Blues received a fantastic effort up and down their lineup, it was the steady, rock solid play of goalie Brian Elliott that kept St. Louis in the series. In my opinion, the MVP of the first round if there was such an award.

So now it's on to round two and the Division regular season champs Dallas Stars. Beating the Stars won't be any easier, but now the Blues have seen what it takes to beat a Champion and it's going to take that type of effort every single night in order to advance each round.

Is this the Blues year to bring home the cup? I don't know. But I sure do like the lessons that this team has learned. The question is, can they keep applying these principles as they move on against Dallas. I think they can.
