Carterville Lions

Week one of the IHSA football season is complete and I have my first game as the new voice of the Carterville Lions "in the can", so to speak.

Congratulations to the Coach Clodfelder and the Benton Rangers on their first win of season over the Lions 20-13 in overtime.

Carterville had their chances to win, but when you have 11 penalties (for 75 yards) and turn the ball over 5 times...3 inside the 15 yard line, you make it hard to win a ballgame.

Despite the turnovers and the fouls, the Lions were able to get the game to overtime. There were also a couple of key injuries that had a big impact on the Lions, as quarterback Blake Hicks went off the field with a possible concussion and lineman Derek Mann went down with a knee injury in the 3rd quarter.

I've attached the game audio from Friday Night. It was great to be in the booth with Jim Cislaghi and to get my first game under my belt.

This week the Lions will try to rebound as the Massac County Patriots will be at the Lions Den. Massac suffered a 35-13 loss at home to Freeburg this past Friday. One year ago, the Lions beat the Patriots 50-0.

Jim and I will again have all the action starting at 6:50 on Newsradio WJPF 1340 AM or you can listen online all season long at www.wjpf.com

Let's Go Lions!
